Children’s Craft: An Apron for Grandma

What was most difficult for me for the Pinterest Challenge was not finding something to actually challenge myself to do but rather choosing which Pinterest idea to blog about. I use Pinterest frequently. Primarily to get recipe ideas but also to get a variety of other ideas.  I love the inspiration.

Festive Strawberries for 4th of July

For example, these festive looking strawberries were an easy treat to bring to a recent 4th of July party. I also recently made this delicious Lemon Quinoa Avocado Cilantro Chickpea Salad (however, I strongly recommend 1 cup of quinoa vs. a 1/2 cup unless you want a soupy, although tasty, salad.) What I struggle the most with Pinterest is being able to locate the original file for an item weeks or months later. Take the above quinoa salad. If you click on the picture in my link it doesn’t bring you to the actual salad but rather a blog with lots of unrelated ideas. To get to the salad you have to search through all the recipes. Sometimes what people pin is an item from a favorite retailer. I suspect over time, when an item is no longer available, Pinterest will entice you with something completely unobtainable. So it’s not flawless system but it is certainly a good way to keep track of photos of things you may want to try.

Apron for Grandma as seen on PinterestUltimately, for the Pinterest Challenge, I decided to share a project I did with my sister-in-law. I saw this cute “Mother’s Day” apron on Pinterest, but it was just a little too late to pull it off for Mother’s Day. Lucky for me, my mother-in-law has a June birthday so I shared the idea with my sister-in-law. I found a solid black apron for around $12.00 at Bed, Bath and Beyond and then passed it along to my sister-in-law who is handy with a sewing machine. She took care of adding the ribbon. The kids took care of the hand prints and the end result was an adorable gift my mother-in-law loves and frequently wears (although she is quick to note that she doesn’t wear it if she plans to be making something particularly messy!).

Blogger Pinterest Challenge

As we’ve discussed, Pinterest can be a great source of inspiration for all kinds of projects. For more crafts, early education ideas and resources, please visit the Bright Horizons Pinterest boards. This week, the Family Room bloggers will all be challenging themselves to complete something they pinned on Pinterest. Check out the fun projects they’ve been tackling:
